The transit zone is an area where foreigners arriving in the event of a mass immigration crisis have the opportunity to initiate asylum procedures properly and to use the services provided in the transit zones until the asylum procedure is completed. Persons arriving in the transit zone can freely leave their territory to Serbia by their own will at any time. Asylum and aliens policing processes regarding to the asylum seekers located in the transit zones are assigned to immigration officers of regional directorate responsible for the area of transit and the tasks related to the provision of accommodation (such as placement, catering, recreation, social assistance, liaison with aid organizations, coordination of their activities) are entitled to Reception Centre and Community Shelter and to the Guarded Asylum Reception Center.
Services provided in transit zones:
- three meals per day - for minors under age of 14 five meals per day (for pregnant women and for mothers with toddlers, and for children under 14: dairy and fruit).
- health and social care (with special attention to those seeking special treatment).
- bed, bedding, continuous hot water service, cleaning package, sanitary ware, laundry, lockable storage for personal belongings, provided clothes.
- access to mass media and telecommunications equipment
- providing free (ecumenical) place for religion.
- a community space for spending leisure time
- childcare, - playground, - small library.
- providing sport and recreation opportunities.
The transit zones are located in Röszke and Tompa along the borderline of Hungary with Serbia.
